The very first gingerbread was likely a porridge made from honey, flour, and water, dried on hot stones. By the 3rd millennium BC, people were already shaping the sweets using clay molds. Both the ancient Greeks and Romans enjoyed this delicacy. From the 13th century, gingerbread figures depicting religious scenes became popular, and the craft of “gingerbread making” was considered an honorary profession. In Hungary, during the Árpád dynasty, monasteries with their own beekeeping produced honey cakes.
It’s no wonder that in traditional fairs, beautifully decorated gingerbread is still a beloved sight. We wanted to capture this festive delicacy in flavor, and we hope it won’t disappoint.
