Coffee cultivation began in Yemen, using terraced farming. It spread through Muslim pilgrims to Mecca and Medina, then across the entire Middle East. Eventually, coffee cultivation reached Arabia and Egypt, where it became a part of daily life. In the 16th century, travellers and botanists began reporting about this unknown plant and its beverage to Europe. Traders soon realised its potential, and in the early 1600s, the first sacks of coffee beans arrived in Venice. This marked the beginning of Europe's love affair with coffee.
