The very first gingerbread was likely a porridge made from honey, flour, and water, dried on hot stones. By the 3rd millennium BC, people were already shaping these sweets with clay molds. Both the ancient Greeks and Romans enjoyed this delicacy. From the 13th century onward, gingerbread figures depicting religious motifs and everyday scenes were crafted, and the art of gingerbread-making was considered an honorary profession. In Hungary, during the Árpád dynasty, monasteries with their own beekeeping traditions prepared honey-based cakes.
